Mrs. Emma Jane Haywood was born in Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana, May 4, 1852, and her spirit passed to the Life Beyond at her home in Bloomfield, Indiana, April 18, 1918, aged sixty-five years, eleven months and fourteen days.
Her parents were James and Amelia Faucett. She had five sisters and three brothers, but only the following are living: Mr. Eliza Haywood, Taylor Township; Mrs. Martha Stone, Howard, Kansas; Mrs. Ida Timmons, Bloomfield; Abram Faucett, Albion, Ill.
She was married to Samuel Haywood July 10, 1880. They have the following surviving children: Pearl, Howard and Mason of Bloomfield. There were three other children; a son, George, who died when about two years old, and two girls, who died in infancy.
According to her ability she made a large contribution to the best and wholesome things of life—Duty, love, fidelity were beautifully exemplified in her humble career. Daughter, mother, wife, sister, neighbor and friend, with their accompanying opportunities and obligations, were sacredly guarded and rendered in her earthly mission.
When sixteen years old she became a humble follower of Jesus Christ at the Antioch Christian Church in Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana, and she kept the fire of faithfulness, consecration and love burning in her heart till the day she went Home. Gentleness, kindness and cheerfulness made her many friends and no enemies.
She was constantly true to her husband, children and all other loved ones, and they endeavored, as far as they could to be and do for her happiness and comfort. In her many months of sickness and struggle she heroically and patiently kept he faith in Christ and long acquaintance with her Savior, together with God’s sustaining grace, gave her great assurance as to the future life and release from her frail and suffering body.
By her request, Elder J. A. Spencer, of Sandborn, Indiana, preached her funeral at Antioch Christian Church at 2 p.m. April 20th and her body there rests.
