Friday, September 09, 2005, Circle B Bar
Got started about 0830. A little cooler and drier today. Walked the new mowed trail and cut over to the marsh. Marsh was too wet to cross. Took a few scenes and some spider photos. Golden-silk spider and Crab spider. Also saw a Carolina Wrenn and got some photos. At the edge of the marsh saw a Red-shouldered Hawk eating something in a tree. Got several photos of it. Also photoed another Red-shoulder Hawk that was in a nearby tree. Saw an Eagle flying over and got a photo of it and some Egrets that flew over. Photo'ed a green grasshopper on a leaf and a few more scenes. Walked on out to the dock on the lake and sat on it a while. Photo'ed Osprey, Egrets and heron that flew by. Got a flock of Ibis also. Very quite today, not many birds about. .................. Herman

Saturday, September 10, 2005, Saddle Creek Park, Audubon Migrant Bird Walk
Walked with a group from Lake Region Audubon this morn. Started about 0830. Checked the start of the Tenneroc trail and got some photos of a couple of Black-crowned Night Herons. During the walk photo'ed a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and a Spicebush Swallowtail. As we were leaving photo'ed a Limpkin in the creek. Other birds sighted by the group included: Black-throated Blue Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Redstart, several Thrush, Limpkin, Short-tailed Hawk (just Chuck and I on the hawk), Summer Tanager, Carolina Wren, Cardinals. Parula, and Ovenbird. A nice day for a walk, but not much bird activity. ..................... Herman

Drove out to the lake a little after 7 pm tonight. Did a few night scenes and some sunset shots. Also got a Great Blue Heron. A few moon shots, also Venus. A cloud moved in near the setting sun and it provided a little color for the sunset. Skeeters got fierce as the sun sat. ...................................... Herman

Friday, September 16, 2005, Saddle Creek Park
Arrived a little after 9 and got started. It was another hot and humid day. At the start of the trail photo'ed a Swamp Lilly and a Morning Glory. Then photo'ed some fungus on a tree and a Downy Woodpecker. Continued walking and photo'ed a Gold-silk Spider and a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly. Got some good photos of a Brown Thrasher that was feeding in a nearby tree.Then got a lizzard and a Primrose Willow flower. Photo'ed a couple of Georgia Thumper grasshoppers and another Tiger Swallowtail butterfly. As I got back to the start, photo'ed a Tricolour Heron and a young Moorhen. It was generally quite on the trail today. ............................ Herman

Saturday, September 17, 2005, Circle B Bar
Today I got started a little befor 9 and I walked the newly mowed trail. Photo'ed an air plant in an Oak tree and some interesting Trumpet Vine flowers. Also, photo'ed an interesting spider and I cannot locate an ID photo for it. Then photo'ed a Tricolored Heron.Walking across the marsh, I was watching some Moorhens and saw 11 Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. Got some good photos of them. Walking along Banana Creek canal photo'ed a Little Blue Heron, Great Blue Heron and Green Heron in the marsh. Got to the lake and saw a Great Egret standing on a submerged limb in the lake. That made for some interesting photos. While walking the lakeside, photo'ed a Snowy Egret, Comorants and a Tricolored Heron. Also got another Golden-silk spider. Still hot, but not as hot and a little less humid today. ..................... Herman

Had a workday today and afterward walked the trails and took a few photos. Photos included a couple of invasive plants; Brazilian Pepper and Air Potato. Also had a few nice wildflowers. .................. Herman

Wednesday, September 21, 2005, Forestbrook Drive, Lakeland, Hawk
I was called about 5Pm to rescue an injured hawk. Arrived at the location in south Lakeland and the hawk was in the front yard of a house. It was a young Red-shoulder Hawk and it had trouble moving. It's wings and legs looked OK. I photo'ed it and collected it in a pet carrier. ................................. Herman

Saturday, September 24, 2005, Lakeland Highlands Scrub
Arrived at the scrub about 8:30 and started the walk. Saw a Tiger Swallowtail on some moss up in a tree and got some photos of it. Also photo'ed a warbler of some sort. Just past the fork in the trail ( I took the right fork) photo'ed some Mockingbirds and a Brown Thrasher. Photo'ed a Meadow Beauty and a Spicebush butterfly. On the railroad trial, photo'ed a Common Buckeye butterfly and a Primrose Willow. Photo'ed a grasshopper on a palmetto and a Golden-silk Spider. A fair day today, The north trail was a bit wet and the pond trail was very wet. ......................... Herman

Monday, September 26, 2005, Circle B Bar, Eagle Release
Today I was invited to view the release of an Eagle and 2 Anhinga at Circle B. The Eagle release was quick. It flew from the container and into the trees in a hurry. I got some fair photos. The Anhingas were much slower and I got some photos. After the release, I checked the pine trees that I had staked upright after the storms last year. Got some spider and flower photos as well as a Great Blue Heron and a young Moorhen. ........................... Herman
